Parenting Advice: The Power of
Imagination
A child's imagination is a wonderful thing. Imagination helps a child grow and develop. Engaging in imaginative
play promotes better learning and self growth. Imagination leads to the road of self discovery; it also can open a
path to a brighter future. Children need to be encouraged to use their imaginations. It is a very fundamental part
of being a human being. As a parent, you need to take this into consideration and support your child in developing
their minds.
Location
One of the most important pieces of parenting advice that we can offer you, is to give your child the proper
location or environment for their imagination to develop and grow. Fortunately, this isn't a very difficult task,
as children will make use of most any location to engage in imaginative play. They will build fortresses out of
nooks and crannies, they can construct castles out of ordinary house funiture. You can help your child by providing
materials such as building blocks or dough. Stuffed animals and toy cars are aslo great for imaginative play
sessions.
Also keep in mind that after a child is done playing, he or she has to know how to pick things up and clean up
their mess. They should always be encouraged to pick up their things and to keep everything in order once done
playing. Children need to be inculcated about the need for balance between play and work or order. They need to be
able to let their creativity flow, but they also need to know how to maintain order and cleanliness.
Here's another bit of useful parenting advice: give your child ample time to engage in imaginative play. Many
children today are so busy with school and afterschool activities and play dates etc, that they really don't have
time to let their imaginations go wild. Make that time for them. It will help them grow and develop their thinking
and creative skills as time passes.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you need to provide your child with toys and other supplies to keep them
engaged. You don't need to go out and buy the most expensive children's toys you can find. You do need, however, to
provide them with a decent supply of learning materials and toys to allow them to play and to make the most out of
their play time.
As a responsible and loving parent, you want the best for your child. This means you should take the time to
encourage them in their play as much as in their studies. Give them the support and encouragment they need.
